The purpose of a home visit
is to ensure the safety of the dog
you are interested in. We are a foster-based
rescue organization which means that each of
the dogs we put up for adoption have been
living with us in our own homes from the
time we got them. This personal touch gives
us a chance to get to know the dog
personally and convey to you all of his/her
wonderful qualities and tendencies as well
as those that may present a challenge for
you.
During a home visit, we have
a chance to further discuss the personality
of the dog you are interested in as well as
give you a chance to meet the dog in
the comfort of your home. Because
these dogs have spent time with us, our dogs
and other family members, we are usually aware of possible
issues that could arise if the dog is not placed in the
right environment (fences the dog could
wiggle through, jumpers that could jump over
a four foot fence, chewers that could chew on
open wires, pools that are unfamiliar to
them, etc.)
If you have existing pets
(dogs, cats, etc.) this is a good time to
introduce them to one another and see what
their initial impressions of each
another are. Do they like one another? Are
they hesitant or afraid? Is there aggression
or jealousy? It is during this introduction
that we can help you by making suggestions
as to how to best acclimate them to one
another in order to ensure a strong and
loving relationship between them forever!
Our home visit is not
intended to invade your privacy or be
intrusive. It is a chance for all of us to
meet each other, but more importantly for
you to meet and spend time with the dog or puppy you are looking
to adopt! It is in the best interest of the
dog/puppy as well as for you that this will
be a good match for your lifestyle. During
our visit, we will
discuss with you any issues that we might see
that could be a problem and/or give you any
safety recommendations in order to insure
a safe and happy transition for you and your
new dog or puppy!
