Spay/Neuter large dogs over 40 pounds:
Do you have or know of someone who has a large
dog that needs to be spayed or neutered?
Concerned People for Animals, Inc. has
special funds available for this specific
situation. Three local vets are
participating in this endeavor with the group
(Battier's Vet Clinic in Camarillo, Camarillo
Vet Hospital and Park Animal Hospital in Simi
Valley). To contact CPA for more information
on this program, please see their contact web
page
HERE.
No more pet sales in West Hollywood:
Their city council approved an ordinance
banning dog and cat sales in petshops
(although none are sold there prior to the
ordinance being passed). It is the hope
by many in the humane community that
eventually all of LA's petshops will go
puppymill-free. Shelter and rescue
animals will still be available for adoption
in West Hollywood's petshops -

While this is truly a
symbolic stand more than anything else,
the rest of the country generally follows
California's lead in matters such as this...
our laws in regards to animals are the best in
the nation and set the tone for what the
general public will tolerate (or advocate) in
other states.
This week's canine trivia:
Dogs have more sensory 'smelling' cells than a
man's 5,000,000. A Dachshund has 125,000,000,
a Fox Terrier 147,000,000 and an Alsatian
(often used as a 'sniffer' dog) has
220,000,000.
This
dog's got chops! As
reported this morning on ABC's "Good Morning
America" and local affiliate WCPO's "Good
Morning Tristate", Winston a mixed breed dog,
escaped from a fenced in area and began a
tug-o-war with a Chattanooga police cruiser.
Winston won. According to an Associated
Press report, by the time McKarney Care and
Adoption Center captured Winston, he'd already
made chew toys out of not only the police
cruiser's bumper, but two of its tires as
well.

Stamps
to the Rescue! On
April 30, 2010, in North Hollywood,
California, the Postal Service™ will issue a
44–cent, Animal Rescue: Adopt a
Shelter Pet special stamp in ten
designs, designed by Derry Noyes of
Washington, DC. With these 10 stamp
designs, the U.S. Postal Service hopes to
raise awareness of the need to adopt shelter
pets. Sorry, no Chihuahuas... (how did
THAT happen???)... You can buy them online
HERE at the post office's website.
TLC's
Successful Adoptions: We've
started a new project here at TLC as people
stop by adoptions, send us updated stories and
photos, etc. We call it
"TLC's Family"... stop by to see Bingo in
his riding leathers and Mocha on her dad's
lap! We LOVE updated photos and stories
- please send us yours and we'll include them
in this 'blog of fame'... Thank-you!

Housekeeping Details:
- IDTags
- Remember, IDTag.com offers free lifetime
replacement tags for TLC dogs (shipping &
handling is $3.95) - contact them directly
if you need one (201-537-5644 or
support@idtag.com ).
-
Microchips: REGARDLESS of what type of
microchip your TLC dog has been implanted
with (HomeAgain, InfoPet, AVID, etc.), TLC
activates ALL microchips with AVID (at our
cost) in their database. If
information has changed since you have
adopted a TLC dog or puppy, microchip
information needs to be updated for the
greatest chance of success in getting your
pooch back (phone numbers, addresses, etc.).
Contact AVID directly at
(800) 434-2843 for changes
(or even just to double check all the
information is correct and complete!).
- Chi-Weaters:
We will have a small selection of
Chi-Weaters this week at adoptions -
many are not even on the website yet.
We're going as fast as our volunteers' hands
can knit in preparation for this upcoming
fall and the season for sweaters~!!
This fundraiser is purely an effort of love
- the total price of each Chi-Weater goes
directly to saving a dog from dying in our
local shelters for the volunteers donate
their time and materials.
REMEMBER ALWAYS
TO ADOPT AND NOT SHOP! THE
DOGS WILL THANK YOU FOR IT!
