TLC News - July 30th, 2009        Back to the newsletter page

Well, a LOT has happened since our last newsletter!  Jayda has had her surgery to repair the broken leg she had, and endured with during her stint in the shelter system (plus delivering 4 puppies while there also).  Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Novy of Valley Veterinary Hospital, another rescue and the general public, Jayda did not have to lose her back leg and we have GREAT hopes one day we'll see her not only walking on it, but RUNNING!  Keep tuned to Jayda's blog for the latest in her recovery.  It is possible she might need another less intense surgery to remove the adhesions that formed around the kneecap during the weeks she had the broken leg, but we won't know about that until the 3-week checkup on August 4th with Dr. Novy... keeping our fingers crossed here!

All of Ginger's puppies found great furever homes as well as Bingo and Mr. Freckles... Even Chloe found her furever home, which just goes to show that if we have enough time, no dog has to die in a shelter once they've been dumped like yesterday's newspaper!  Chloe found a great home with someone who is willing to understand, show compassion and give her the additional time to make the leap of faith from not trusting humans ever again to devoting her unconditional love to her new furever family... Way to go, Chloe!  More of our successful furever home placements are listed here.

We got back great news about Kimberly - we just happened to be in the right place at the right time with this little one and she's now gotten a clean bill of health.  Another one of the TLC dogs currently up for adoption, Kelly suffered at the hands of those who engage in dog fighting - she had both upper and lower canines removed and therefore had no way to defend herself.  Arriving in the shelter with a skin condition, she spent 6 weeks in isolation.  She's been going rehabilitation at one of our foster homes and is learning that she can exist in a canine community without having to fight for her life.  Ruby's mastitis is now gone and both she and Kelly have been spayed, licensed and now ready to be adopted by their furever families.  Ruby and Bella play together all day long, so we'd really like to adopt those two together if possible to a home that wants active and energetic dogs.

We have LOTS of puppies coming up in the next few weeks - see the list of our available dogs here and keep up with everyone's blogs here.

More news:

ChemNutra Pleads Guilty: The Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorney, recently released news that owners of ChemNutra pleaded guilty in federal court “to distributing a tainted ingredient used to make pet food.” How many more cases of intentional pet food ingredient contamination are there?  Read further details here.

$5.00 Rabies Shots: In today's economy, every little bit helps.  Don't forget that Ventura County Animal Regulation holds monthly rabies shots clinics for $5.00.  The next one is being held at Port Hueneme fire station (304 Second Street) at 7PM on August 11th, then on September 1st in Moorpark at the fire station at 295 High Street.  See VCAR's website here or call them at (805) 388-4341 for more details.

FREE Cesar DVD: TLC is part of the "Shelter Stars" program with Cesar Millan and as such, you can receive his DVD "People Training for Dogs" for FREE (even the shipping is free) - simply visit http://www.MillanFoundation.org, click on "People Training for Dogs" and in the coupon spot type in the code ADOPT at checkout to receive this DVD for FREE!  Honest, I just went through the process myself personally!

Hot Dogs In Cars: Ever get tired of seeing dogs in hot cars during the summer?  Do something about it - download and print out a few of these flyers "Is it too hot to take my dog along today?" from this website HERE and store in your car.  The next time you see a dog in a hot car, leave it on the person's windshield (and hopefully monitor the situation to make sure the dog is OK or call 911).  I do this frequently and I truly believe people just aren't thinking when they do this to our canine pals!

Great buy for Xpens & crates: Great place to buy exercise (Xpens) and crates online - DigItPet.com - call and order it for pickup, then save the shipping if you're in their area!

REMEMBER ALWAYS TO ADOPT AND NOT SHOP!  THE DOGS WILL THANK YOU FOR IT!

This is an opt-in newsletter, so you're free to come and go as you please.  We're hoping you'll be with us for a very long time.  Feel free to pass on our newsletters to other dog lovers... and encourage them to visit us as well!  If you like to suggest a topic or have a question, please contact us.  We'd LOVE to hear from you!
