TLC Newsletter - 08/19/09        Back to the newsletter page

Michael Vick: The dog lover world was all a buzz with the news that Michael Vicks was awarded a $1.6 million dollar contract to play professional football again, this time with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Read the news story and see the video from ESPN HERE.  Inquiring minds want to know - do you think Michael Vicks should have been reinstated and playing professional football again?  Register your opinion at the TLC poll - http://www.tinylovingcanines.org/polls/michaelvicks.htm

P.S. You can keep up with the Michael Vick dogs that went to Dogtown at the website HERE.

Congratulations go out to Cubby and Xena's new furever families.  Xena will be in the 2010 TLC calendar with those unbelievable blue eyes of hers!  Cubby's won the hearts of her new furever family as well - special thanks to Kristen for fostering Cubby as a TLC foster mom!  Two of Jayda's puppies have passed home visits (Hope and Faith) and will be going to their new furever homes on Saturday, leaving only Joy and Justice up for adoption along with Xena's son, Thor.  Sarah (Gorgeous' mom) will be at adoptions for the first time this upcoming Saturday and what a sweetie she is!

TLC's Resources section has been revamped and expanded:  Now broken down into four sections depending on the topic, if you would like to see another topic listed, please let us know!  TLC's Library of Resources is at http://www.tinylovingcanines.org/resources.htm

Leona Helmsley is back in the news again: Three of the nation's major animal-welfare groups filed what they call a landmark lawsuit in New York today to get a larger share of the fortune Leona Helmsley left to charity at the time of her death in 2007. The Humane Society of the United States, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Maddie's Fund insist that Helmsley wanted much of her more than $5 billion estate to literally go to the dogs than her estate's trustees have so far directed to canine welfare. Read the rest of the story HERE.

PetAirways: On July 14, PetAirways launched the first airline specifically designed for pets that allows you to send them on their own flight designed to fit their needs. You have the option of sending your pets to and from New York, D.C., Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles with fees that range from $150 to $300.  For more information on Pet Airways navigate to: http://petairways.com

Speaking of airlines: JetBlue typically charges a $100 fare for dog and cat passengers, but by using a promotional code being given out at Petco stores and on Petco's Web site, pet owners can have that fee knocked down to $50. To get the discount, call (800) JETBLUE, or 538-2583, and mention the code "LETSGO."

We're always looking for fosters and volunteers - interested?  And if you like to suggest a topic or have a question, please contact us.  We'd LOVE to hear from you!
