TLC Newsletter - 11/24/09        Back to the newsletter page

TLC 2010 Calendar Contest: We've had a late entry into next year's calendar contest... Sarah and her daughter, Tequila, are both now entered with Sarah in the lead at 90 votes, Annie with 60, Tequila at 30, Kahuna with 18 and Scudders with 12 - remember it is a dollar a vote for 6 votes for $5.00 (and your votes are tax deductible donations).  You can see all the entries HERE and the calendar contest has its own blog HERE to keep up with the competition... In our mind, ALL of these TLC dogs are winners for they got through this state's shelter system and found their great FUREVER homes!

Greenies:  For all of the Greenies fans (and we use a LOT of them for the TLC fosters LOVE this product), you can now get a $2.00 off coupon at the Greenies website located HERE... and it is printable off your own printer, making it very convenient!

LA Announces Dog Fighting Tip Line: The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office launched a 24-hour tip line for local residents to report dogfighting.  Those who call the tip line (877-NO2-FITE) and provide information about a dogfighting ring, an upcoming dogfight or an individual who is involved in dogfighting will be able to collect up to $5,000 if the information leads to the arrest or conviction of individuals involved. Read the entire story

Royal Canin:  We have been asked many times why we highly recommend Royal Canin and they now have a great webpage on their site that explains this in a concise and simplified fashion... Personal experience has shown us great results when shelter dogs were put on Royal Canin #28 (less poop to clean up too and it doesn't seem to stink as bad either!).

Have you voted for TLC yet?  We're up to 23 votes now on the website, but the nicest thing has been to read some of the compliments people have entered as they are voting... Thank you one and all for your support!  For sure, Best Friends will win the $10K (and deservedly so! for all the great work they do), but it is an honor to see people have voted for TLC as well!

Ventura County Shelter:  Great strides have been made at the shelter in the recent months since Monica Nolan has taken over.  There are expanded hours now and we urge you to support the shelter this upcoming holiday season and adopt, NOT shop!  The petshops rely on the holiday buying season for 51 to 72% of their TOTAL income for the ENTIRE year!  Buying at a petshop does NOT guarantee you a great dog.... and speaking of petshops...

Millie Vanillie of Kansas: Recently, TLC took an Chihuahua puppy that was bought at a local Simi Valley petshop.  Read Millie's saga - it is a fantastic example and factual documentation of just how twisted things have become in the multi-billion dollar business of producting puppies:

The Microchip Mess:  During a recent newsletter, we made the statement that if a microchip is not registered and activated, simply having one implanted had no more value than a piece of rice.  Two new websites regarding this same topic have become part of the Internet - read the results when we tested them.

30 Local Dog Parks: Always make sure your dog is up-to-date on their shots, remember that not all dogs at a dog park will be, bring your own water and water bowl (keeping other dogs from drinking out of your dog's water bowl) and have fun with your canine companion at one of the local dog parks!  The list

TLC's Wish List:  Please remember TLC when you begin thinking about your holiday gifts - your gifts today can save a shelter dog tomorrow!  Wish List

REMEMBER ALWAYS TO ADOPT AND NOT SHOP!  THE DOGS WILL THANK YOU FOR IT!

This is an opt-in newsletter, so you're free to come and go as you please.  We're hoping you'll be with us for a very long time.  Feel free to pass on our newsletters to other dog lovers... and encourage them to visit us as well!  If you like to suggest a topic or have a question, please contact us.  We'd LOVE to hear from you!
