Humane
Society launches a national 'Puppymill Tip
Line':
"Puppy mills are a national
scourge," said Justin Scally,
manager of The HSUS' Wilde Puppy
Mill Task Force. "Hundreds of
thousands of dogs across the country
are trapped in constant confinement
their entire lives, producing
puppies to profit the puppy mill
owner. This tip line will be a vital
tool to help free these dogs from a
life of abuse."

Aid & Emergency Care for Dogs and Cats:
There is a nice (free) eBook available
here on the Internet. It was worth
reading through and even printing out a copy
and file for when you need to quickly get your
hands on this type of information.
BOW
WOW Bonanza: Many of
us pet owners are brand-specific when it comes
to the supplies we buy our pets. When we
get coupons for other pet supplies we don't
use, the coupons go to waste. TLC has
launched a coupon exchange --- and in today's
tough economy, everyone can use a little bit
of help --- feel free to donate those coupons
you don't use (and aren't expired yet) while
looking for any that you yourself might be
able to use.

year for humane legislation:
While California became the first state to ban
docking of cow tails, we sadly did not make
any progress in the puppymill or backyard

The
best present EVER - a Christmas puppy!
For those thinking of giving a puppy as a

letter to Santa at the very bottom).
Mileage Donation Program:
United Animal Nations (UAN) has started a
program that allows compassionate people to
donate their unused frequent flyer reward
miles to the organization. These
donations are used to fly UAN staff and
Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS)
volunteers all over the United States and
Canada to care for animals rescued from puppy
mills or displaced during natural disasters.
To donate your airline miles for
this VERY worthwhile cause, contact UAN at
(916) 429-2457 or contact them via email at

Sweaters and Coats Just Aren't "Pretties"!
As the cooler nights and winter approaches,
more sweaters and coats appear on our little
pet companions. While some think this
too 'humanizes' our beloved canines, there is
an art to knowing when your dog should be
wearing outerwear, how to fit it properly and
of what material it should be made of.

Personal note from the Director:
Twelve years ago I started a program online
called "Santa's Elves Online". It
continues on with a group of volunteers who
write customized (free) emails to children
from Santa at this time of year. We all
know how busy Santa gets at this time of year,
so of course (smile) his elves need to help
out Santa!
