"Sunshine"
Sunshine is now about
18 months old and was part of a backyard breeder's
"stock" - we pulled both Sunshine and her son,
Gizmo, out of the shelter after they were both
seized by Animal Reg. Puppies get
adopted quickly so her son found his furever home,
but Sunshine is still with us. She is
non-descriptive and just does not show well at
adoptions. Sunshine is not overly friendly
initially and people just pass her on by for more
overly friendly little ones - TLC usually has a wide
selection of these and Sunshine just keeps getting
left behind!
It has taken months
of rehabilitation and coming to adoptions for
Sunshine to learn what most dogs know normally...
what belly rubs and treats are for, not all humans
will hurt her, etc. She's a major UC
(undercover) Chihuahua who would do fine as an only
dog, or with other small dogs. While she would
prefer to sleep in her foster parent's bed, she is
also crate-trained, house- and doggie-door trained
now as well. |
Sunshine has the typical Chihuahua personality -
while she deeply loves her foster family members
and is very well behaved with them, Sunshine tends
to be a bit snarfy with strangers and is a
'slow-warmer-upper' towards new people. It
is a process to socialize one of these little ones
- especially when they were not socialized at an
early age but just bred until they could no longer
breed any more. When we rescued Sunshine,
she could not make direct eye contact with a
human... now she is interested in what is going on
around her, enjoys 'watching' TV with her foster
family and gets along with the other small dogs
she lives with.
Sunshine (like most small Chihuahuas) does not do
well around small children who can be excited and
run around with 'outside voices' - so for her
safety and your children's, we cannot place her in
a home with little ones who could accidentally
fall on her. We would prefer to place
Sunshine with someone who has experience with
Chihuahuas and/or rehabilitating one who has been
through such a background as Sunshine has.
She has a lot of love to give the right person,
but just got a slow start in her life as she was
being used as a breeder instead of being someone's
companion snuggle-bunny.

the week by appointment only.
Puppies
are not brought to adoptions until
they've had their puppy shots for their own

TLC is not a petshop - we are a rescue and ALL
TLC dogs are living with our foster families until
they are adopted.
