OUR MISSION: To rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home abandoned
and neglected dogs, saving them from certain death in the local shelters.

Frito - Frito was found in the Ventura County Shelter and at the time, we were unsure exactly what was wrong with him, or how he ended up in the shelter either.   He proved to be a very loving Chihuahua, friendly to all people and dogs alike.

Shortly after he was 'sprung' from the shelter, it was discovered he had seizures.  After numerous tests, the vet was unable to pin down the exact cause and little Frito went onto a specialist for further tests and diagnostic measures.

Eventually it was determined that he is a liver shunt dog and not a candidate for the surgery for he has (literally) thousands of liver shunts.   This is a common after effect when breeders 'breed down' to achieve the smallest possible dogs... Yorkies are known to suffer from this ailment as well unfortunately.

Given a possible three months, his adoption family decided to go ahead and adopt him, celebrating every day of his life instead of his eventual demise.

UPDATE:

Put on a specific diet and medications, Frito proved the odds were wrong and instead of living only for three months, he's passed 21 months recently. Today, Frito and a fellow Chihuahua do therapy with seniors at assisted living centers.  He's a VERY happy, happy little Chi that just needed that little extra bit of TLC and a furever home that would love him just as he is!
